A Japanese lawmaker backing a bill to legalize casinos said he expects it to win lower-house approval next month and that the gambling resorts would be in major cities and charge locals an entry fee. “We want to finish up in the lower house in the first half of October and send it on to the upper house,” Koichi Hagiuda, secretary-general of a lawmaker’s group promoting the casino bill and an aide to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, said.

The Grand Ho Tram Strip casino resort on Tuesday announced the appointment of Shaun McCamley as its new president. Mr McCamley, an Australian national, has “extensive Asia gaming experience in both marketing and operations”, the firm said. He replaced Michael Santangelo at the Grand Ho Tram Strip. Before relocating to Vietnam earlier this month, he served as managing partner of Euro Pacific Asia Management and Consulting Ltd, a specialist gaming consulting firm based in Macau and founded by Mr McCamley.

Spain’s state prosecutor has summoned representatives from Spanish La Liga Football Clubs, Real Zaragoza and Real Levante regarding suspicious match play and allegations of match fixing regarding a 2011 football match. The game under investigation took place at the end of the 2010-11 season, when Real Zaragoza beat Real Levante 2-1. The state prosecutor’s office in Madrid announced that a number of players had been summoned for questioning on October 3. Zaragoza stave off relegation.

Gambling industry officials say U.S. casinos had a $240 billion economic impact and employed 1.7 million people in 2013. The American Gaming Association is expected to announce the results of its economic study Tuesday morning at a news conference. The group’s annual G2E Global Gaming Expo kicks off this week at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. Oxford Economics studied the industry’s impact and included spending and revenue that might be linked but not directly connected to a casino.
