Macau will also face the problems of ageing and a diminishing labor force a decade ahead. The city’s population will hit around 750,000 in 2025 from the current 640,700, the Policy Research Office (GEP) predicts in its latest population policy report, which also indicates that the imbalance in labor force demand and supply will continue to grow.

The Macau government remains committed to its proposal for a full smoking ban inside casinos, the office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chong Weng, said. The clarification came after Steve Wynn hinted that Mr. Tam had made a U-turn on the proposal. “The government’s stance on this matter is clear, as stated in the bill that has passed first reading by the Legislative Assembly.”

Japanese tycoon Kazuo Okada increased its budget for the first phase of a Philippine casino by a third to $2 billion, in return for obtaining a government extension on the delayed project in the capital city Manila. The total investment on the entire complex may reach about $4 billion. The initial phase, scheduled to open December 2016, will have two hotels with 1,000 rooms, 500 gaming tables.

Malta’s online gambling regulator has suspended more operating licenses in the wake of last week’s enforcement action by Italian police against Malta-licensed Betuniq. On Tuesday, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) announced it had suspended the operating licenses of Fenplay Ltd, whose director Vincenzo Giuliano was among the 28 Italian individuals detained by Italian police during last week’s sweep of betting operations linked to the ‘Ndrangheta crime family. The MGA also issued similar suspension notices for licensees Soft Bet Ltd, Soft Casino Ltd and Alibaba Casino Ltd.
