Visitors to Macau on package tours totaled 597,000 in February 2018, up by 8.8 percent. Meanwhile, in the first two months of 2018, visitors on package tours totaled almost 1.4 million, a surge of 29.3 percent year- on-year. Package tour visitors from mainland China (450,000) and Taiwan (56,000) rose by 11.6 percent and 55.3 percent respectively year-on-year in February, while those from South Korea (46,000) dropped by 6.1 percent.

Galaxy Entertainment Group is on a record winning streak as the effects of a Chinese anti-graft campaign fade – and that’s enriching its owner to the tune of USD12 billion. The Macau casino operator has jumped about 200 percent during a seven-quarter winning streak, placing it among the top four performers on Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index. Lui Che-Woo, who saw much of his wealth evaporate as China’s corruption probes battered Macau’s casino operators when President Xi Jinping first came to power.

Goa’s floating casinos will get an extension of a further six months before they are forced to move from their current location in the Mandovi River. The extension runs through to September. Under new legislation, that has not yet been passed, the casinos are being forced onshore to a specified entertainment zone.

Mirroring its 2017 summer stakes pattern, Del Mar will present 41 stakes races worth a combined $7.3 million over the course of its 36-day meet in 2018. Racing gets underway for the 79th season at the seaside oval Wednesday, July 18 and concludes Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. The marquee day at the meet will feature the GI TVG Pacific Classic Saturday, Aug. 18, one of six Grade I’s and 21 graded events overall. Nineteen of Del Mar’s stakes will be run on turf, with the other 22 coming on the main track.
